The 2024 APLA Regional Conference took place in Hanoi, Vietnam from 2 to 5 September with the theme of ‘AI in Lotteries: A New Frontier’.
Speakers through the program delivered excellent insights and learnings around the theme, covering topics relevant to our businesses today and for our future. Key messages included:
- The importance of data – how we capture and analyse the vast amount of data we hold, while maintaining our privacy and ethical obligations.
- Finding a starting point for our AI journey and being clear about what we want to achieve using AI.
- The role of collaboration and partnerships in developing and delivering AI initiatives.
- The need to ‘keep the human in the loop’ to mitigate ‘hallucination’ and bias.
- The critical role we play as leaders in engaging and guiding our team members, customers, and other stakeholders as we commence the AI journey.
Use cases were shared, both within our industry and beyond, that clearly demonstrate the benefits of AI. These use cases showed us how to make a start on the journey, how to engage our stakeholders and what to look out for. Opportunities included enhancing our one-to-one engagement with customers, elevating the customer experience, supporting efficient business operations and monitoring for illegal activities, and how we can use data to monitor for problem gambling.
It was wonderful to hear country updates from Vietnam and the Philippines, plus our WLA colleagues who shared what is happening in our global industry.
We also enjoyed a series of social and networking events that allowed us to catch up at a sightseeing tour of Hanoi, the Opening Dinner at the conference venue – the Pan Pacific Hanoi, the Closing Dinner at Nan Song Hong Village and the Networking Day at Bat Trang Pottery Museum.
