Dr Nerilee Hing Joins Singapore Pools' International Advisory Panel

Dr Nerilee Hing, Professor with the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management and Head of the Centre for Gambling Education and Research, Southern Cross University in Australia, has been appointed as a member to Singapore Pools' International Advisory Panel (IAP) in May this year.


The other members of the Panel include Mr Reidar Nordby Jr, Consultant to the Norwegian National Lottery, Norsk Tipping, and Dr Andy Nazarechuk, founding Dean of University of Nevada Las Vegas, Singapore Campus.


Set up in 2008, the International Advisory Panel offers the knowledge, network and expertise of distinguished overseas experts to strengthen the company's strive for excellence and best practices in gaming and corporate social responsibility initiatives, alongside the world's best gaming operators.


Dr Nerilee Hing has a Bachelor of Business in Tourism (UNE), a research Masters degree in Applied Science (UNE) involving a study of restaurant franchising, and a PhD (Gambling Studies) from UWS focusing on responsible conduct of gambling in NSW clubs.


Dr Hing is an active researcher into gambling-related issues, principally focusing on responsible provision of gambling and the management of problem gambling. She has conducted research activities with Clubs NSW, the Club Managers' Association Australia, the NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing, Queensland Treasury, Victorian Office of Gaming Regulation, Gambling Research Australia, Independent Gambling Authority of South Australia, the Australian Institute for Gambling Research and the Australasian Gaming Council.


During the opening of Singapore Pools' 3rd Responsible Gaming Week on 4 May 2009, Dr Hing delivered a keynote address entitled, "Play Light, Play Right, Play Within Your Means: Putting Words into Action". She shared with guests the responsible gambling measures implemented in Australia and the effectiveness of various media to communicate responsible gaming messages.
